A long-standing name in trad climbing protection, the Wild Country Friend is a double-axle cam designed for trad, alpine and multi-pitch climbing. It keeps Wild Country's original 13.75° camming angle, with hollow axles, polished un-anodised aluminium cam faces, a single-stem design and a 12 mm Dyneema extendable sling. The current range covers sizes 0.4 to 4, giving useful coverage from smaller finger cracks through to larger hand-sized placements.
The Friend's main advantage is its combination of secure handling and built-in extension. The thumb loop makes the cam easy to place, pull and clip, while the extendable sling helps reduce rope drag and can limit walking on wandering pitches. The wider lobe profile gives a very stable contact and range, but can be less suited to narrow seams, pockets and shallow placements than slimmer, more specialised cams.
