TAZ - LOV2
The TAZ LOV2 is a self-locking rope device originally
developed for rope-access use, but it has also become a standard option for
experienced climbers building top-rope solo systems. It uses a straight rope
path with a camming lock, allowing it to grip a fixed rope under load when
correctly orientated.
For top-rope solo use, the LOV2 is mainly attractive because
it can feed efficiently on a well-managed fixed rope while still allowing
controlled descent on the same line. This makes it useful for climbers working
moves, repeating sections of a route, or doing mileage where repeated
changeovers would be awkward.
The straight rope path means the LOV2 can be attached to or
removed from a weighted rope more easily than many conventional belay devices.
This is useful when moving onto a fixed line, adjusting position, or descending
after working a route. It can move up and down the rope without the same
tendency to bind as some other devices, giving useful freedom when working
sections, but it still relies on correct orientation, compatible rope and
careful system setup to lock reliably under load.
Although its widely considered one of the safest and most intuitive
tope rope solo devices, It should only be used by climbers who fully understand
fixed-rope systems, rope compatibility, device orientation, braking control,
fall clearance and rescue options. Carefully look into the manufacturer’s
directions before use and make sure you appreciate the risks of top rope
soloing.
