Beal - Birdie

The Beal Birdie is a compact assisted-braking belay device designed for lead climbing and top-rope belaying. It is compatible with ropes from 8.5 to 10.5 mm, making it suitable for a wide range of modern indoor, sport and general climbing ropes. The Birdie uses a smooth, ergonomic handling area with a clearly marked rope path, making setup straightforward and operation familiar for climbers used to assisted-braking devices. The rounded internal shape is designed to reduce rope wear, while the rope enters and exits in line with the device axis to help limit twisting during lowering. Its main trade-off is weight: at 220 g it is not the lightest assisted-braking device, but the full metal build makes sense for climbers prioritising durability.
