Mammut - 8mm Phoenix - Classic
|Half rope for trad climbing on winding routes or making full length abseils. Only for use as a pair.|
The Mammut Phoenix is a super skinny half rope at just 8mm in diameter.
The skinny diameter and lightweight combine to make them lovely ropes to handle and climb with. Care should be taken to use an appropriate belay device but most common grooved models work well e.g. Petzl Reverso, Black Diamond ATC, DMM Pivot etc.
The biggest selling point however is the Classic's price point, not having a dry treatment means that the price is fantastic.

Having recently bought a new 60m single rope i didn't want to fork out too much on my first set of half ropes. Got these for about £130.00 which was great. I checked online reviews first which were all positive. Out the bag they are notably lightweight and take up hardly any room in my Crag Daddy 45L pack. On their first outing both myself and my 2nd took 2 falls each onto sluing threads and the landing was a breeze. (Accidentally strayed onto an unexpected hard E1 when going for an easy HVS) Then a 45m Abseil off and they aren't too thin to feel unsafe through my ATC Guide. Really easy to feed as a second compared to my friends thicker halfs. Very impressed. Thanks Pete for the recommendation.
