DMM - Apex
A new, radically curved technical tool for hard icefalls and modern mixed climbing.
The Apex is a superbly balanced precision tool ready to tackle steep ice, massive mountain routes and mixed test pieces. The curved shaft provides an ergonomic hand position and impressive clearance around bulging ice. Can be used with leashes in traditional climbing mode, but excels without leashes for the more modern approach. The new one piece T rated Ice and Mixed picks cover all bases.
Even more impressively the axe is rated full strength end to end clipping the two obvious points.

I used these axes this winter in Scotland for some mixed routes. Firstly these are super balanced and nicely weighted as standard the top and bottom finger guards are perfect for when on rocky sections. The adze is not the largest in the market but for a technical tool rather than a walking axe it is more than sufficient. Now, if your wondering between these and the switch's I would recommend these for Scottish climbing as these have the pointed tip perfect for the approach in consolidated snow where as the switches are rounded and aimed purely at climbing not the approach. All in all these axes are perfect for all ranges of technical ice climbing and Scottish winter. Best buy!
