First rate descriptions, route pictures and detail. Indispensable.
Good, detailed guide book. Crag notes and approaches all seemed to be correct and were easy to read and understand.
i bought this book for my son and he is pleased with it.
I am very impressed with Dick's Climbing who replaced, for free, a copy which went AWOL in the Easter post. So the guide; layout is a bit annoying but the content is good. As soon as I opened the book the cover fell off. When I told a friend I had bought a copy the first thing he said was "Did the pages drop out?" I would suggest that for the next edition the printer/binder is changed.
Brilliant in climbing terms. I knew it was not the most robust and so it turned out. Binding is abysmal. Buy it for info, not for longevity. Delivery excellent, by the way. Chris
Absolutely rubbish spine to the book (but i expected that, as everyone has made the same comment!) but the content is good and well detailed. The only thing I found strange, not sure if i like it or dislike it, is the order in which they have listed the crags/sectors in the guide. It makes planning before you arrive easier sometimes but looking up where you are in the gorge once you have arrived is more difficult as they are not in order from one end to the other (thats how the road runs, one end of the gorge to the other...).
This is a Christmas present for my son. I read reviews which said that this was the best book to buy. The only down side mentioned in other reviews was that the pages fall out when the book is opened right out. I don't know yet if this is true but I thought it was worth the risk if this is the best book for climbing in Cheddar Gorge.
This is a great guidebook, the only annoying thing is that it is really badly bound! It came out of its cover almost straight away. When I was at the crag I noticed a few other people with the same book that had done the exact same thing.
Apart from the fact that the back pages have already come apart with the first use, I'm happy for the comprehensive content. It's got all the info you need (and more), the route beta was spot on, which I find very important. At some point crag books need taping anyways, so if you're not too bothered it's good value for your money.
It's a great guide book, extremely accurate and has all the information you'll ever need. Notoriously hard to source online too! To note, the book IS perfect ... at least, the contents are. Sufficed to say, I've never seen anyone with one of these for more than about a week with the cover still attached properly, and that is not for the want of trying! Still, the defacto guide, has to be brought over any other choice, and the binding isn't the fault of anyone who sells these, a manufacturing issue.
Navigating cheddar with the CC guide for the first time can be tricky, Martain Crocker's guide is simply the solution for less "faff" and more climbing :-)
It's not easy to find some climbing guides online so I was very happy to see that I could get it so I am prepared to go climbing not having to buy a guide book in arrival.
